Griz vs. Northern Iowa tickets going fast; UM hoping for sellout

By KEILA SZPALLER | Posted: Tuesday, December 6, 2011 6:00 am

Tickets to the University of Montana Grizzlies football game Friday night are going fast, and Chuck Maes wants to see the Adams Center Box Office sell them out.
"We're hoping. We've never sold out on a playoff game," said Maes, UM associate athletic director for internal operations and events. "We came very close in the App State game two years ago."
As of Monday afternoon, some 12,000 folks had tickets to watch the Griz face the Northern Iowa Panthers on Friday in the FCS quarterfinals. Maes said he anticipates selling 24,000-plus tickets for the stadium, which seats 25,200.
Here's an update on how to get tickets, Campus Drive closures, parking, tailgate rules, and where to tune in on television if you're watching from home.
Kickoff is at 6:05 p.m., and ESPN will televise the battle between the fifth-ranked Grizzlies and second-ranked Panthers.
You can get tickets a couple of different ways. The Adams Center Box Office will sell them from 8:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and on Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. through halftime during the Grizzly basketball games. Halftime falls about 8 p.m.
Tickets are $26 each, plus $5 per order for purchases made by phone or fax. Ticket prices for students are $5 and $10 for a student guest - until 6 p.m. Tuesday. After that deadline, students pay $26.
Students and season-ticket holders who preordered playoff tickets have until 6 p.m. Tuesday to make their purchases. After 6 p.m., tickets once reserved for season-ticket holders will go on sale at www.griztix.com, likely by midnight Tuesday, Maes said.
As of Monday afternoon, some 1,500 student tickets remained. Maes said it's hard to estimate the number of regular tickets that will be left before 6 p.m. Tuesday, but the number appeared to be dwindling fast at the box office.
"It's crazy over there. We're flying," Maes said.

Friday promises to be crazy on campus as well, but classes won't be canceled, and parking will be a hassle, according to a memo UM President Royce Engstrom sent to the campus community.
"Private pregame tailgating will begin at noon, and I hope everyone will be especially welcoming to the fans from across Montana and Iowa," wrote Engstrom in the note. "GO GRIZ!"
On Monday, the University of Montana also issued a news release with information about Grizzly game day. Here are details:
  • Campus Drive will have restricted lanes on Wednesday and Thursday for game setup.
