UM Upsets MSU, Earns Auto Bid

Sophomore Jordan Johnson guided Montana to a 36-10 win over Montana State.
Seventh-ranked Montana upset rival and top-ranked Montana State 36-10 in Bozeman on Saturday to forge a tie for the regular-season Big Sky Conference football championship.
Both Montana and Montana State finished 7-1 in conference. Because of the win over Montana State, Montana earns the auotomatic bid to the Division I Playoffs. Both squads finished the regular season 9-2. Montana State should receive an at-large playoff bid.
The 20-team playoff field will be announced on Sunday at 8 a.m. Mountain on ESPNU.
Montana rolled up 309 rushing yards, including 123 and a touchdown from Peter Nguyen, and 116 and a touchdown from Dan Moore. Montana State managed just 79 rushing yards.
No. 25 Portland State saw its playoff hopes dashed, losing to Weber State 48-33 at home. It was the final game for Weber State coach Ron McBride, who is retiring after seven season with the Wildcats. Weber State's C.J. Tuckett rushed for 211 yards on 20 carries with five touchdown touchdowns. Tuckett, who had 407 all-purpose yards last week, scored on runs of 53, 30, 4, 1 and 3 yards. Portland State QB Connor Kavanaugh threw for a career-high 364 yards.
Northern Arizona's season ended with a 27-24 home loss to Southern Utah. Zach Bauman rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
Sacramento State fell at home to UC Davis 23-19 in the Causeway Classic.
Defending national champion Eastern Washington finished its season with a 45-14 win over Idaho State. EWU QB Bo Levi Mitchell threw for 397 yards and three touchdowns. Mitchell finished the season with 4,009 passing yards and 33 touchdowns. He is just the fourth Big Sky QB to throw for 4,000 yards in 11 games. The other three - Jamie Martin, Dave Dickenson and John Friesz - all won the Walter Payton Award.
