Sacramento State enters the game with a 1-2 overall record and an 0-1 mark in Big Sky Conference games. Since defeating Oregon State in the season opener, the team has fallen on the road to Southern Utah and Weber State. Both games have been close at the half only to see the opposition pull away late.
The Hornets are looking to regain their magic at home from a year ago. In 2010, Sacramento State posted a 4-1 overall record with its lone setback being a 64-61 overtime loss to eventual Big Sky champion Montana State. Under head coach Marshall Sperbeck, the team is 13-8 at Hornet Stadium and has won six of its last seven dating back to 2009.
Montana is 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference action after a 17-14 win over defending FCS national champion Eastern Washington. The Grizzlies threw for only 34 yards but ran for 316 yards on 46 carries. Quarterback Jordan Johnson was the team’s leading rusher with 102 yards on 10 attempts. The Montana defense also intercepted EWU’s Bo Levi Mitchell once in the end zone and another time to end the game.
The Griz began the year with a loss at Tennessee before defeating Cal Poly for its first win of the year.
